Intelligence Testing
The tests provide valid, and reliable results based on published and standardized assessment instruments. The evaluations are conducted by practicing psychologists or psychological associates who are licensed by the North Carolina Psychology Board. The written reports are confidential. The information is explained in both IQ Scores (numbers) and in written explanations of strengths, weaknesses, and cognitive processing. Some of the tests have indices that measure memory, reasoning, perceptual organization, attending, and processing speed. Verbal and nonverbal tests are available.

Emotional Health
Personality, self-concept, and values can be assessed. People respond both emotionally and intellectually. Understanding reactions of yourself, children, employees, or spouse can offer explanations for behavior. The information is a powerful tool used to solve situational problems, reduce frustration, suggest coping mechanisms, and is the key to changing behavior.

Areas of Professional Interest
Dr. Johnson has been working with CEP Evaluations since 2005. She specializes in psychological testing with children, teens, and adults and also works in the area of forensic psychology. In previous years, she has provided individual and group therapy services to clients of all ages and has specialized in helping clients recover sexual abuse and other types of trauma.
Treatment Philosophy
Life's inevitable challenges include events that can feel overwhelming. When overwhelmed, the outcome can be feelings of depression, anxiety, or other mental health symptoms. Clients experiencing such symptoms commonly report (or otherwise indicate) feeling "stuck." Therapy is the means through which clients are helped to become un-stuck. Dr. Johnson most often uses Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to assist clients in 1) identifying self-defeating or other unproductive thoughts and 2) replacing these thoughts with alternative, less psychologically damaging explanations. All clients are worthy of respect and will be treated with empathy. Therapy is a collaborative process, and clients are encouraged to consider short- and long-term goals.
Psychological assessment and testing offers clients information about their strengths and uncovers obstacles that interfere with optimal fulfillment in regard to emotional and interpersonal functioning. When appropriate, Dr. Johnson will provide psychiatric diagnoses and recommendations and will communicate this information with other health care professionals if asked to do so by the client and if given written permission to do so.
Educational History
In 2002, Dr. Johnson earned a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas. As part of her doctoral education, she attended a pre-doctoral psychology internship at Louisiana State University which included rotations in psychiatric/forensic hospitals. In 1997, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Johnson's undergraduate education took place at Appalachian State University where she earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Psychology.
